Hey guys Scott Matusow here, to offer my opinion on a well known poker pro, who didn’t list my brother Mike as one of the top 50 of all time.
Recently, This player made a list of the top 50 poker players of all time. The player said the influence on the game was a major factor, and if that’s the case, I don’t understand how Mike didn’t make This player’s cut.

Let me start off by stating the obvious. I’m biased as hell. I mean of course I am! As his brother, I know Mike from a perspective few have ever seen. Mike is an honest man who never cheated anyone. Something that many poker players cant truthfully say. There are many famous poker players who drown themselves in their own ego, and are totally different once the cameras aren’t on them.

What you see is what you get with Mike. He wears his heart on his sleeve for all the world to see. Sure sometimes it has gotten him into trouble, or caused controversy. Many of us remember the confrontations he got on in the poker table with Greg Raymer in the 2004 World Series of Poker, or the confrontation he got into with Sean “Shieky” Sheikhan. But there are two things to remember about those confrontations.

1) It was good for the game. Every good story needs a hero and a villain. And Mike was both. He brought poker entertainment. Whether you loved or hated Mike, you watched. And that’s why he’s on all the major poker television broadcasts.

2) Mike is an emotional guy, and both Raymer and Shieky are cool with Mike today.
But its not just fame and publicity that should garner Mike into the top 50. Mike’s accomplishments speak for itself. My brother was the first poker player in history to win 1 million dollars or more in two events in the same calendar year (2005 Main Event, and Tournament of Champions).
He has won three World Series of Poker bracelets, many non-televised poker tournaments, and has final tabled a slew of WSOP’s and World Poker Tournament events.

And while some of the public may think he’s annoying or a general pain in the ass, the many people he helped with his generous charity work would surely argue. If you haven’t heard of all the money and time he’s donated to several charities, its because he’s humble enough not to share. But I’m his brother, and I don’t have to be humble about Mike. I’m damn proud of him. I’d list his charity endeavors, but this blog doesn’t hold enough space to fit them all.

So is my brother one of the Top 50 of all time?? You betcha he is. He’s an absolute Hall of Fame poker player, and person.
So please leave your comments below, re-tweet the hell out of this post and create the buzz that we need to get Mike into the Hall of Fame!
Go Get em’ Brother,
Scott Matusow

Mike is a very underestimated player. He truly is one of the best tourney players of all time if you look at the record. If you get past all the bluster, I’ll take Mike in a big tourney anytime.

Are you kidding me? is this even a question? of course Mikey should be in the hall of fame. Mike is proven by stats alone that hes one of the best live tourny players of all time. I think we have yet to see everything that Mike has to offer. Sure everyone has there downfalls, but to overcome those downfalls is a feat of its own and Mike has done that. After reading Mikes book, “Check Raising the Devil” it was life changing and the guy really means what he says. Takes a lot of balls to do what Mike has done in his life and i think its about time he gets the respect he deserves.
