Last Friday, Rep. Joe Barton introduced the Internet Gambling Prohibition, Poker Consumer Protection, and Strengthening UIGEA Act of 2011 in to the US House of Representatives. John Pappas, who is the executive director of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) was quoted as saying “I just left Congressman Barton’s office and he said he’s heard from a number of congressional offices that their Facebook pages and emails are getting overwhelmed with poker players, and that’s a good thing,” Pappas also went on to say “We need to build a lot of support and momentum behind this legislation,” Pappas said. “Without question, that’s the most important thing we can do right now.”
The PPA has a very popular “Take Action Page” on their website (www.theppa.org). This section will show you various ways to support HR 2366 and others. It also shows you how to email and spread the word on Facebook pages of Congress, Senate & other representatives. There is also letters that can be edited for you to send out. There is also a list of phone numbers (much like our list on our homepage) It only takes a few minutes to voice yourself.
It was reported that the wording of the Internet Gambling Prohibition, Poker Consumer Protection, and Strengthening UIGEA Act of 2011 will most likely be changed and/or explained more as it goes through the motions. Pappas mentioned that the PPA has been, and will continue having meetings with legislators about the bill. There will most likely be several more co-sponsors coming forward.
